About the event
A native of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. KMonee is a graduate from Kent State University,
where she received a Bachelor of the Fine Arts in Theater. KMonee began her career in the
theater by performing at Porthouse Theater, and the Tri-City Cuyahoga Community Theater.
Thereafter, she continued to cultivate her craft in the theatre performing regionally at Karamu
House Theatre, Beck Center, Dobama Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, and Cleveland City
Hall. As an Equity Member Candidate, in 2008, she was inducted into the Karamu Hall of Fame
receiving the “Rising Star Award.”
KMonee expanded her reach within the artist community and joined the TowerPress Artist
Group as a visual artist. With the support of her village, she returned to her first love of painting
and drawing. Her works entitled “Illustrations of a Colored Girl,” exhibited throughout the
Greater Northeastern Area at Karamu Theater, George Forbes Gallery, Rebar, Tri-C Metro “A
Time for Healing” Trinity Lutheran Cathedral, Tower Press, Dobama Theatre, and Cleveland City
Hall.
Through her current artwork, KMonee illustrates and captures the essence of Freedom. The
Freedom Collection tells her story coloring the implications of her experiences as a black
woman in America. She hopes to ignite and encourage other artists to have open
conversations centered on community issues of race, ethnicity, and gender giving momentum
to the social diversity movement with a focus on positive progression with healing at the end
goal. As she serves God through the arts, she hopes to revive, restore, and resurrect the voice
of the artist.
